My encounter with coding

Ungraded lab 1, SL2, new CSE building IITb.

We were given with a very friendly compiler called Prutor (for the first time it wasn’t friendly at all :p). And like everyone else, we were given the same first task.

Remember this beyond awesome phrase-
“Hello world”

My first program wasn’t that simple you see, coz we had to add our name to it as well. That’s where the trouble began. After 30 minutes of random attempts, I finally gave a call to my TA, it was then she told me about the input area. Yeah I just had to give my name as input 😅 .

This was not quite the start I was expecting, though after a few days things started becoming better, was able to solve some easy ones but that was it. After midsems it started scaring me off, too much to cope with. At that point, being a CSE student, I started having thoughts on getting my branch changed, mainly because of my below average performance in theory tests. I stated this fact so that you can get an idea of how grave the situation was. A guy who have studied for two years just for the dream that he gets into IITB CSE is so scared by a course that he’s willing to give it all up. To make the situation worse there are people who make you feel like shit by crying over far better grades than yours -_- ( I hope you read it :P)

Although this was the darkest phase, and eventually it passed. Now those absurd thoughts don’t disturb me anymore. I performed decently since then, although I can’t say I can code very well now but still I’m not running away, that’s for sure. Looking forward to my next courses in computer science very positively, after all that’s what I’m in for next three years atleast.

I know such has been an experience of many of my fellow mates, but as many of my friends and seniors told me, this is the least computer science has to offer. So I decided not to judge the book by its first page.
Maybe I’ll get into coding someday, someday soon.

  2. What could be a solution to this problem ? How can it be avoided before hand?

    1. Some forehand experience in coding might do.
