Dan Brown’s (Chillax… No spoilers)
It was Angel and Demons which brought me into the world of Robert Langdon. And the prologue just stunned me, as it was my first encounter with Dan Brown’s signature writing style. To add to the effect I was on an educational trip to US with some very awesome people ( I’d write an article on that as well :) ).
The first thing which you can make a mind about, even after some 3-4 chapters is the way the author delivers it. And Dan Brown is arguably one of the best, the books are written in a narrative fashion, depicting each scene. He keeps on dropping subtle hints, those tiny details, keeping the thrill alive throughout. And the best part, those symbolic and historic references which are heavily used all over. He brings out the best in modern and medieval architecture and builds the plot around it, visiting them someday and reliving the books would be a dream come true.
Talking about the protagonist Prof. Robert Langdon, the character is built really well. Which had to be coz this is what Dan Brown himself wanted to be like. I especially liked how well Robert’s limited edition Disney watch and the fact that he was claustrophobic has been used over and over again, such that it melts in. Furthermore, his female counterpart in each book is so charismatic. From Vittoria Vetra to Sienna Brooks, every one of them makes you fall with their charm and wits.
Coming to the USP of the books, Dan Brown kills it when it comes to thrill and suspense involved. The turn of events throughout the books are so drastic and yet so smooth. The author keeps you involved throughout, giving you instances to make your guesses, but when it comes to the antagonist, he’s always hiding in plain sight. Each chapter makes you rethink on your choices and that’s what it makes it different.
The only problem with the series being that you’ll find yourself less amazed as you read the next book. They become sort of monotonous, I enjoyed my first more than the second and so on. Apart from this little thing, this series is a must read if you have a taste for mystery.
