Bharatpur-An Aerial Escapade
A vast stretch of land filled with beauty of nature, be it puddles with hundreds of whistling ducks, a pair of painted stork flying right over your head, or a cormorant with its amazing fish catching skills. Where every frame is picturesque. One place which can revive your love for photography – Bharatpur.
It is not everyday that I wake up (actually was shook until I stop babbling) at 4 in the morning, but this wasn't any other day, thanks to my uncle and my brother’s long time wish. After four hrs of drive, we were at Keoladeo National park. And from the very instant I could feel that this place has just too much to offer. We picked up a friendly guide, and started on the 10 km long trail. For the first 4 kms all we could spot were Parakeets or Robins. Although the surroundings were killing it already. And then we found the first big gun- Indian Grey Hornbill, which our guide proudly proclaimed as Dr Salim Ali’s favourite bird. It was a loner, lazing around on a high branch at quite a distant tree. And here’s what I got -
Moving ahead, first puddle and there was this restless little guy, Yellow wagtail. You know the best thing about the name of birds? It tells you a lot about the one.
Finally into the ‘Be alert’ zone, there was too much to see all around and missing a thing would be a terrible loss. A few steps and my head was filled with a strange shrill sound. Following the sound, there was a beauty hard to behold. Hundreds of whistling ducks taking a sun bath, and tens of cameras pointed towards them. And I was staring, firstly towards the ducks and then towards those beyond awesome professional cams (the devil always wants more, right?)
Then there was a lane of water birds, purple heron followed by a grey one. A black headed ibis and the magnificent Painted stork.
Oh yeah we even spotted a flying pair, and this shot-
The next thing which caught my eye was this colorful beauty-
Coppersmith barbet
Busy in its juicy meal, having no idea of the innumerous eyes locked on it.
What’s next?
This little guy staring straight into the lens, and yeah, he was a bit alone. All my previous sighting, I found them in pairs.
But I haven’t got the perfect model, till I laid my eyes on this handsome creature. A snakebird showing all it has got. This one kept me busy for almost half an hour. The result though is stunning :)
Too much for a day, right? That’s what my camera said and it went off :|
And the last one I saw was the rarest - Indian sarus crane, the tallest flying bird. Goddamn that battery.

That’s it, the Bharatpur escapade ended, but the effect it got on me, it has got to stay. It was after a span of months that I enjoyed photography, walked almost 20 km and most importantly, rejoiced nature.
for capturing this beauty with me.
